Environmental Defense Fund
Guided by science and economics, we tackle urgent threats with practical solutions.
For decades, EDF has been committed to bipartisan environmentalism. The results are incontestable: Every major environmental law from the early 1970s to 2016 has passed with support of both Democrats and Republicans.
In 2017 – our 50th year – we will work with members of Congress from both parties who, like us, resist attacks against America’s bedrock environmental laws.
We’ll continue to find innovative ways to solve big environmental problems in the U.S. and globally. Among our successes, we’ve played key roles in:
Driving the science and advocacy that led to federal action toward reducing climate-harming methane emissions
Introducing a management system that has dramatically reduced the amount of overfishing in the United States
Persuading companies, such as Walmart and McDonald’s, to adopt environmentally friendly business practices.
Our mission: Greenpeace is a global, independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.
A group of thoughtful, committed citizens came together in 1971 to create Greenpeace. A handful of determined activists leased a small fishing vessel, called the Phyllis Cormack, and set sail from Vancouver for Amchitka Island in Alaska. Their mission was to protest U.S. nuclear testing off the coast of Alaska with a brave act of defiance: to place themselves in harm’s way.
Despite being intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, these daring activists sailed into history by bringing worldwide attention to the dangers of nuclear testing.
That was more than 40 years ago, and in that time, Greenpeace has indeed changed the world. And we continue to make the world a better place. Our committed activists and supporters have come together to ban commercial whaling, convince the world’s leaders to stop nuclear testing, protect Antarctica, and so much more.
Wildlife Conservation Network
WCN’s mission is to protect endangered species and preserve their natural habitats by supporting entrepreneurial conservationists who pursue innovative strategies for people and wildlife to co-exist and thrive.
When you donate money to save wildlife, we know that you want your donation to have a real impact for endangered animals. At WCN we continually strive to make our model as effective as it can possibly be for our donors, our Conservation Partners, and wildlife. 90% of all funds donated to WCN are used to support our programs in the field. These dollars are either sent directly to our Conservation Partners or are used to fund the training and conservation support that we provide to help conservationists grow their organizations.
